Weekly Market Report

Welcome to the Weekly Market Report, your go-to rundown for all the highs and lows of the week.

Things are starting to quiet down a bit now that TIFF is over, but Fall officially started today and with it, more of your fave Fall items are rolling in. Keep scrolling for all the important updates this week.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS WEEK

Critical Updates:

    • 🚨 Voluntary Recall on Frozen Raspberries (No Action Needed): Alasko has issued a voluntary recall for a specific lot of IQF Whole Raspberries due to potential contamination with Norovirus. A voluntary recall means the supplier has proactively initiated the removal of the affected product from the market. All potentially affected customers have already been notified directly by Bondi Produce. If you have not been contacted, you have not been affected and no action is required.
    • 🚨English Cucumber: Prices are expected to rise by about 20% each week, peaking around Thanksgiving and lasting about 3-4 weeks due to crop rotation in Leamington. This will result in some sporadic supply issues with our #2 cucumber option during this transition.
    • 🚨Asparagus: Prices are up due to low production, and current Peruvian asparagus is smaller and thinner than usual. Larger asparagus is expected this week, but prices will likely remain high for the next few weeks.
    • 🚨California salad products quality affected by heat: The heat is leading to lower yields, inconsistent quality and shorter shelf life of salad products.

      Market Moves:

      • 📈 What’s Up: Prices are up this week for select lettuces, onions, cosmic crisp apple, Persian cucumbers and more (full list below).
      • 📉 What’s Down: Decreasing prices on red Belgian endives, lemons and select tomatoes.

      Product Updates:

      • 🌱New Arrivals: Bennett’s Apple Cider, various mushrooms, blood oranges, and Cara Caras are available now!

      • 🍂Fall Decor Pre-order: Order by Sunday for delivery later next week and decorate your spaces for fall!

      • 🔜Coming Soon: Kumquats and fresh cranberries will arrive this week and remain available until December.

      • 🚳Finishing Soon: Ontario corn, zucchini flower and local tomato supplies are slowing coming to an end.

🍎Non-Produce Pick of the Week: Bennett's Apple Cider!

      What's Up, What's Down & Shorts Recap

      Market Moves This Week

      📈Price Increases📈

Prices on these items are trending up this week:

      • ICEBERG LETTUCES & GREEN ONIONS (2647, 2655, 2857 & 2860) - California supply tightens up as heat and insect pressure continues to affect production. Higher pricing and limited availability is expected to continue as we move into the seasonal transition.
      • COSMIC CRISP APPLE (10889) - Price adjusted with new crop availability.
      • CROWN BROCCOLI (2219) - Local supply affected by major storm few weeks ago.
      • BLUEBERRIES (12634) - Price increased due to limited availability of high quality in the market.
      • FLAT RUNNER BEANS (7513) - Limited supply from Netherlands.
      • LIME (2718 & 2720) - New crop transition and limited larger sizes are driving prices higher for another week.
      • FROZEN WILD BLUEBERRIES (8165) - Supply is back at an increased price.

      📉Price Drops📉

Prices on these items are trending down this week:

      • RED BELGIAN ENDIVE (4566) - Supply and quality have improved with product from the Netherlands.
      • LEMONS (4614) - Better availability in the market is bringing prices down.
      • TOMATOES (7381, 7382, 3432) - Prices will continue to decrease due to strong production from Ontario Greenhouses.

       🚩Red Flags/Shorts:🚩

The biggest supply or quality challenges and updates to be aware of this week, how long we expect them to last, and what we’re doing to keep orders covered.

      • Yellow Sunburst Squash (3328) | Local Sunburst supply is now finished for the season, and Guatemala products will take over. Current weather in Guatemala's growing region is creating quality issues.
      • Purple Cauliflower & Romanesco (2313, 4143) | Stock is currently running low due to recent weather changes in Quebec affecting product quality. We expect a new shipment to arrive this Friday, September 25th.
      • Frozen Cranberries (2385) | Currently facing a potential shortage due to a sudden spike in product sales. More will be brought in this week.
