Weekly Market Report

Welcome to the Weekly Market Report, your go-to rundown for all the highs and lows of the week.

The weather is officially giving summer, and so is the launch of our Summer Produce Planner! Keep scrolling to download your copy. We’ve also got a few new produce and non-produce additions hitting the ordering site this week, plus some clearance deals and market updates you won’t want to miss.

Here's the highlights for this week...

THE TL;DR VERSION

Market At A Glance:

  • 🔺Tight & elevated: Romaine, leaf lettuces, napa, carrots, fennel, celery, Brussels sprouts, avocados, limes, and grapes remain tight with prorates, quality pressure, and elevated markets persisting. Larger lime sizes continue to be especially limited.
  • 🔻Easing: Tomato supply and quality continue improving out of Mexico and Florida, with markets expected to stabilize soon. Broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, strawberries, raspberries, cantaloupe, and watermelon are all seeing improved supply and availability.
  • ➡️ Transitioning: Tomato production continues shifting north into Georgia and South Carolina. Citrus remains heavily skewed toward larger fruit, leaving smaller sizes tight.

📈 What’s Up?: Price increases this week on eggplant and blackberries as East Coast eggplant supply remains limited during regional transition and premium blackberry quality continues commanding higher market pricing.

📉 What's Down?: Price decreases this week on round, Campari, and grape tomatoes, bok choy, gailan, and several pepper varieties, as summer growing regions ramp up production, supply improves, and FOB markets continue to ease.

🌟 New Arrivals: New fresno and Jimmy Nardello peppers! Plus, McCain tater tots have landed & 500ml retail bottles of Casa Calypso are now available!

🔜 Coming Soon!: Tigchelaar Ontario field-grown strawberries are anticipated to arrive week of June 8th!

🚫 Finished: Ramps are finished for the season. Locally foraged fiddleheads and morels are winding down.

Market Recap

What's Up, What's Down

📈Price Increases📈

These items have surged in price this week:

  • EGGPLANT (2479) - Mexico crops have finished and supply is now transitioning over to Georgia. Availability remains very limited this early in the East Coast season.
  • BLACKBERRIES (2191) - #1 quality is carrying a slightly higher price tag this week as shippers work through excess supply in the market.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • ROUND TOMATOES (4676, 4675, 4674) - Florida crop yields are strong across Northern growing regions and have helped stabilize the East Coast tomato program. Markets are expected to remain steady through the remainder of the season.
  • CAMPARI, GRAPE & GRAPE MEDLEY TOMATOES (4738, 4643, 4254) - Increased supply out of Canadian greenhouses is driving improved yields and softer market pricing.
  • BOK CHOY, BOK CHOY TIPS & SHANGHAI BOKCHOY (2206, 6628 & 2210) - Shippers are continuing to push Mexican product as the first local bok choy farms begin coming into production. A full transition to local supply is expected within the next 14 days.
  • GAILAN (2515) - Good availability on Mexican product while we wait for local supply to begin.
  • RED, YELLOW BELL PEPPERS & MINI SWEET (3010, 3029 & 4615) - Strong Canadian greenhouse production is improving yields and helping ease market pricing.

Plan Ahead for Summer!
