Welcome to the Weekly Market Report, your go-to rundown for all the highs and lows of the week.
January is January-ing pretty hard right now. It’s cold, it’s grey, everyone’s half-frozen, and the coolers at Bondi feel warmer than it is outside.
But, we’ve got a few tropical arrivals this week that might actually brighten your day a bit and make you forget (briefly) that it’s freaking cold out there. A little vacay for your menu?
Let’s get into what’s worth getting excited about this week...
THE TL;DR VERSION
Market At A Glance:
🔺Tight & elevated: Leafy greens, herbs, celery, carrots, green onions, Brussels sprouts, strawberries, limes, artichokes, fennel, and leeks remain tight due to weather, mildew, and prorates.
🔻Easing: Table grapes (South America ramping up) and asparagus (stronger Mexico supply).
➡️ Transitioning: Avocados, bananas, melons, pineapples, lettuce, tomatoes — ongoing regional shifts and weather affecting sizing and supply.
⚠️ Price Watch: • Bananas: Expect increases over the coming months as markets remain firm. • Avocados: Pricing is climbing ahead of Super Bowl demand, with weekly increases expected into late spring. • Limes: Continued volatility through Q1, especially on larger sizes.
📈 What’s Up?: Prices are up on chanterelle mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, ginger, daikon, corn, Tuscan black kale, green fancy zucchini, and jalapeños due to shifting growing regions, tight supply, slow crop growth, and seasonal production gaps.
📉 What's Down?: Prices are easing on green beans, snow peas, and sugar snap peas as supply and quality improve across Mexico and Guatemala.
🍋 New Arrivals: Pink lemons, favas, quince, hearts of palm, Korean melons (the talk of the office, absolutely fire), and honey nut squash.
☀️On the Horizon: Baby pineapples, honey passion fruit, purple Brussels sprouts (arriving later this week!).
🟥 Red Flags: Full details and a few shorts from last week of note below.
🍎 Black River Juice Samples: Black River Juice sample packs still available — ask your rep if you're interested!

Market Recap
What's Up, What's Down
📈Price Increases📈
These items have surged in price this week:
CHANTERELLE MUSHROOMS (6557) -Prices increased due to a shift in growing regions from Lithuania to Portugal.
BRUSSELS SPROUTS (2225) - With USA/Mexico production essentially nil, we’ve begun importing from Europe to fill the gap, which has resulted in higher pricing.
NAVEL ORANGES (2910) - The California crop is running way below normal, so prices are climbing and will likely stay on the rise for the next few months.
GINGER ROOT (2538) - New-crop Chinese product lands next week; prices are high until containers arrive but should come down soon.
DAIKON (2410) - Price increase due to the transition to Mexican product.
CORN (2374) - Florida production is still low, but pricing should start to come down over the next few weeks.
TUSCAN BLACK KALE (2590) - Pricing is up due to a switch to Mexican product and slow crop growth in Mexico, while demand for Tuscan kale remains high.
GREEN FANCY ZUCCHINI (5490) - Low yields in the new growing area are keeping zucchini prices elevated.
JALAPENO PEPPERS (2994) - Chili pepper production remains below seasonal norms, keeping jalapeño pricing slightly elevated.
📉Price Drops📉
These items have dropped in price this week:
GREEN BEANS (2153) - Increased production out of Mexico is easing pricing slightly.
SNOW PEAS & SUGAR SNAP PEAS (2970 & 2973) - Improved availability and quality from Guatemala are pushing prices down.
This Just In!
🍋New Arrivals🍋

Hearts of Palm | 7719 — Mild, tender, and versatile. Adds clean texture to salads, bowls, or ceviche-style dishes, and holds seasoning well.
Fava Beans | 6406 & 2142*— A welcome bit of green in the middle of winter. Good for purées, pastas, or anywhere you want a fresh, grassy flavour.
Honeynut Squash | 7885 — Back from Bosco Farms! Smaller and sweeter than butternut with richer flavour. Roasts well and fits easily into sides, bowls, or veg-forward dishes.
Korean Melons | 12083 — Crisp, mildly sweet, and clean-tasting. These are gorgeous right now.
Quince | 12024 & 3198* — Great for slow-cooked applications like compotes, braises, and anything that needs a warm, floral fruit note.
Pink Lemons | 5506 & 4168*— Same versatility as a regular lemon, just brings a bit more colour and interest to the plate.
Baby Pineapple | 3995 & Honey Passion Fruit | 12084
We’ve got a couple tropical items landing later this week.
Baby pineapples are on the way — super sweet, easy to work with, and the core is soft and fully edible. Honey passion fruit is coming in too, with the same flavour you expect but a smoother, slightly sweeter finish.
Both are great for cocktails, desserts, or anywhere you want to add a bit of brightness to the menu.
Purple Brussels Sprouts | 5108
Bringing the same earthy, nutty flavour you know and love, just with way more colour and a slightly sweeter finish. They hold their colour best when roasted or sautéed, and look unreal on a plate.
Keep an eye out for their arrival this week!
