Weekly Market Report

Welcome to the Weekly Market Report, your go-to rundown for all the highs and lows of the week.

Hope everyone is enjoying fall so far! Many summer crops and products have wrapped up for the year, making way for fresh seasonal favourites. Keep scrolling for this week's important updates and new offerings!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS WEEK

Critical Updates:

    • 🚨Tighter supply for lettuce and leafy greens: The growing region for lettuce and leafy greens is facing a seasonal transition due to the end of Salinas season and the incoming El Niño. Expect price movements, varying quality, possible partial order fills, and inconsistent supply on greens and brassicas.
    • 🚨Roma Tomatoes: Prices are expected to stay up for 2-3 weeks before we transition to a heavier new crop.
    • 🚨Burgundy truffles: Burgundy truffle season is nearing its end, with limited availability resulting in a slight price increase for the remainder of the season.

      Market Moves:

      • 📈 What’s Up: Green onions, grape tomatoes, Red Delicious apples, Gailan and limes are up in price this week.
      • 📉 What’s Down: Prices are down on cauliflower, white onions, and habanero peppers.

      Product Updates:

      • 🌱New Arrivals: Kumquats, Hot honey, and Raw honeycomb have arrived!

      • 🍂Thanksgiving Fall Decor Order: Order by this Sunday for delivery later next week.

      • 🔜Coming Soon: 10" Whole Wheat Tortilla is available next week.

      • 🚫Finishing Soon: Local Roma tomatoes, Ontario corn, strawberries, and pear supplies will end after this week.

🍟Non-Produce Pick of the Week: French Fries! A versatile side that pairs with just about anything.

      What's Up, What's Down & Shorts Recap

      Market Moves This Week

      📈Price Increases📈

Prices on these items are trending up this week:

      • GREEN ONIONS (2857 & 2860) - California supply is tightening as heat and insect pressure continue to affect production. We are gradually transitioning to Mexican supply.
      • GRAPES TOMATOES (4643 & 3410) - Transitioning to imported product this week is driving prices higher.
      • RED DELICIOUS APPLES (2028) - Prices are expected to come down in the coming weeks as more products are available from the U.S. and Canada.
      • GAILAN (2515) - Local supply is limited due to quality concerns;  temporarily sourcing imported product is resulting in elevated pricing.
      • LIME (2718 & 2720) - Transitioning to Mexico’s new crop, with limited large-size limes keeping prices high.

      📉Price Drops📉

Prices on these items are trending down this week:

      • CAULIFLOWER (2301) - California weather continues to pressure production, pushing prices higher for good-quality product.
      • WHITE ONION (2878) - U.S. supply has improved and is expected to remain strong throughout the quarter.
      • HABANERO PEPPER (2989) - Local habanero supply and quality remain strong.

       🚩Red Flags/Shorts:🚩

The biggest supply or quality challenges and updates to be aware of this week, how long we expect them to last, and what we’re doing to keep orders covered.

      • Nectarines (2798) | Supply is running short due to a gap before Chilean fruit arrives in mid-November. U.S. peaches and plums are available for a few more weeks to help fill the gap.
      • Cremini Mushrooms (3882) | Availability remains limited, with Cremini supply expected to improve over the next couple of weeks.
      • Frozen Mango Puree (8854, 7863*) | A short supply gap is expected due to transportation delays, with availability expected to improve once new arrivals come in.
