Hope everyone had a great last long weekend of summer! We’re diving right into fall with new seasonal arrivals hitting the market and fall décor on the way over the next few weeks. Keep scrolling for everything you need to know this week.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS WEEK
Critical Updates:
🚨Roma Tomatoes: Weather continues to impact local quality, with scarring, off-colouring and softness expected for the next few weeks. Ontario supply remains tight, but no Bondi shortages to date. We'll continue to keep you updated.
🚨Likely The Last Week For Local Peaches & Nectarines: This is likely the final week for local supply, with recent weather limiting fruit reaching spec. Expect a transition to U.S. product as needed to maintain quality and availability.
🚨Mushrooms: Ontario supply is tightening due to growing challenges. Availability may be reduced and substitutions are possible over the next couple of weeks, with Quebec and U.S. supply being explored. See Red Flags/Shorts below for more details about affected SKUs.
🚨Tariff Update: Canada’s new reciprocal tariffs on select U.S. imports took effect this week, but economists expect the overall impact on food prices to remain relatively limited. While certain U.S.-origin products may see increases, a broad jump in grocery or food costs isn’t expected. Where tariffs do apply, Canadian and alternative sourcing may help offset some of the impact.

🌱New Arrivals: Local Bartlett pears and Delicata squash are now available! Plus, new frozen purees from Ponthier.
🔜 Coming Soon: Local apples are starting next week with Ontario Galas starting Sept 14th. Fall Decor is also arriving in the next 1-2 weeks along with Bennett's Apple Cider.
🚳Finishing Soon: Local peaches & nectarines are wrapping up a little early this year due to unfavourable weather.
☕Non-Produce Pick of the Week: Pacific Barista Series plant based milk!
CAULIFLOWER (2301) - Quality remains good, but limited supply and premium pricing have pushed costs higher.
SNOW PEAS (2970) - Delayed containers from China, combined with quality issues out of Guatemala and Peru, are driving prices higher.
ASPARAGUS (2093) - High demand and lower field yields have pushed costs up. Inventory is secured, but pricing is expected to remain elevated for the next 1–2 weeks.
RED BELGIAN ENDIVE (4566) - Warm weather in Europe is impacting specialty chicory quality, with good-quality supply becoming limited.
POTATOES (WHITE & RED CREAMER C) (3118 & 3092) - Potatoes are now fully into new crop, with improved costs coming as we bring on a second vendor. Red Creamer Cs are up this week due to poor quality Canadian crop.
CLUSTER TOMATOES (7382) - Local greenhouse crops are seeing weather-related supply challenges, with prices climbing for better-quality picks.
ROMAS (7382 & 3431) - Weather-related supply issues are impacting local crops, pushing prices higher for better-quality picks.
BLACKBERRIES (2191) - Pricing increased due to poor yields and higher holiday weekend demand. Supply is secured for the week, but at elevated costs.
BRUSSELS SPROUTS (2225) - Limited supply and higher pricing for good-quality product have pushed costs up.
ROMAINE HEARTS (2689) - Extreme heat is causing internal quality issues, driving prices higher for better-quality product.

Prices on these items are trending down this week:
WHITE PREMIUM, BURBANK, AND YELLOW CHEF POTATOES - Fully transitioned to new crop with good quality.
BAKING POTATOES - Transitioning to PEI crop.
RASPBERRIES (3227) - Pricing adjusted down due to improved field yields.
🚩Red Flags/Shorts:🚩
The biggest supply or quality challenges and updates to be aware of this week, how long we expect them to last, and what we’re doing to keep orders covered.
Mushrooms (2758, 3882, 2761, 2781, 2782) | Ontario mushroom supply is expected to tighten over the next couple of weeks as slower growth, weather and compost challenges continue across local growers. Availability may be reduced and substitutions are possible. Alternative supply is being explored to help minimize shortages.
Yams | The yam market remains tight. Suppliers are reporting a short-term supply gap, expected to last 1–2 weeks until new crop comes online. Alternative supply is being explored in the meantime.
Romas | Weather-related quality issues are expected to continue, including scarring, off-colouring and softness. Ontario supply remains tight, but our inventory is secure.
Local Apples | We'll be transitioning into our full local apple program over the next few weeks, starting with Galas on Monday.
Apple Cider | Bennett's apple cider is expected to arrive week of the 21st.
