Weekly Market Report

Welcome to the Weekly Market Report, your go-to rundown for all the highs and lows of the week.

The warehouse is realllly starting to feel like summer! The coolers are packed with Ontario strawberries, English peas, sugar snap peas, garlic scapes, and so much other good local stuff available right now! Make sure to check out the Origin: Ontario section on our website for all the Ontario grown faves we've got coming in.

On the non-produce front, we've added Sabatino's Black Truffle Peelings to the catalogue, and keep scrolling for some of our top picks for those hungry FIFA crowds.

Let's get into it this week's highlights...

THE TL;DR VERSION

Market At A Glance:

  • 🔺Tight & elevated: Romaine, romaine hearts, iceberg, leaf lettuces, celery, artichokes, fennel, Brussels sprouts, carrots, cantaloupe, and smaller citrus sizes remain tight with elevated markets and limited availability. Avocados markets continue to tighten.
  • 🔻Easing: Strawberries, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, watermelon, and tomatoes continue to improve with stronger supply and stable quality. Lime availability is also improving as additional volume enters the market.
  • ➡️ Transitioning: Tomato production continues moving north into Georgia, the Carolinas, and California. Offshore grapes are giving way to Mexican and California volume, while blueberries face a potential summer supply gap as Mexico winds down before Pacific Northwest production ramps up.

📈 What’s Up?: Price increases this week on blueberries, grapes, cantaloupe, broccoli crowns, mini sweet peppers, Thai green chilies, and Vidalia onions as crop transitions, import supply gaps, quality challenges, and ongoing pressure on larger fruit and specialty items continue to tighten markets.

📉 What's Down?: Price decreases this week on specialty peppers, broccoli, green beans, eggplant, limes, lemons, strawberries, nectarines, Royal Gala apples, white asparagus, Tuscan kale, and chanterelle mushrooms as production ramps up across the Carolinas and California, import volumes improve, and stronger overall supply continues to ease market pressure.

🌿 New Arrivals: Lots of new local additions this week including kohlrabi, a basil medley mix, spring onions, ruby Swiss chard, and heirloom beets from Clearwater, local garlic scapes, English peas and sugar snap peas, and Black Summer Truffle Peelings from Sabatino. YUM.

    Market Recap

    What's Up, What's Down

    📈Price Increases📈

These items have surged in price this week:

    • BLUEBERRIES (2193) - Expect pricing to increase over the next 1–2 weeks as poor yields in Georgia and Florida continue to pressure supply. New Jersey production is just beginning and should provide relief once harvest ramps up.
    • RED SEEDLESS GRAPES  (2553) - Mexican production is winding down and a supply gap is expected until California grapes begin in early July. Supply remains available for current demand, but markets will stay elevated. Green grapes, in particular, are expected to run smaller until California volume comes online.
    • JUMBO CANTALOUPE (2250) - New crop California continues to struggle producing larger fruit, keeping premiums elevated for this time of year.
    • MINI SWEET PEPPERS (4615) - Premium pricing remains in place on Ontario greenhouse product, with Mexican supply continuing to struggle on quality and availability.
    • THAI GREEN CHILIS (3024) - Limited availability of Thai chilies, combined with seasonal reductions in airline cargo capacity, is keeping markets tight.
    • VIDALIA ONION (2877) - Transitioned to US crop.
    • BROCCOLI CROWNS (2219) - Supply is beginning to tighten as Mexican production winds down and the transition to California gets underway. Prices are trending upward.

    📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

    • RED FRESNO, POBLANO, SHISHITO & SERRANO PEPPERS (4610, 3699, 3019 & 3696) - Availability continues to improve on specialty peppers as South Carolina production ramps up.
    • CHANTERELLE MUSHROOMS (6557) - Sourcing from new grower and growing region.
    • BROCCOLI (2213) - Increased production out of California has eased pricing for the time being.
    • WHITE ASPARAGUS AAA (4699) - Better supply from Netherlands.
    • LIMES (2718 & 2720) - Plenty of supply on limes across all sizes. Markets should continue to ease provided growing regions avoid significant rainfall.
    • EGGPLANT (2478) - Increased supply out of Georgia has eased pricing for the time being.
    • ROYAL GALA APPLES (1885) - Improved supply has helped bring pricing down.
    • GREEN BEANS (2153) - Increased supply out of North Carolina has eased pricing for the time being.
    • LEMONS (4614) - South African imports are now arriving in full volume, helping ease supply pressure and providing some relief on market pricing.
    • NECTARINE, NAVAL ORANGES & STRAWBERRIES (3767, 2899 & 3346) -Improved supply is helping bring costs down.

      Supply Watch!

      🚩Last Week's Shortages🚩

      Supply Gaps & Quality Flags:

      • Avocados — Avocado supplies are tightening rapidly as Mexico nears the end of its season, driving higher prices and increased market volatility.
      • Romaine Lettuce — Poor quality is limiting availability and tightening supply, with elevated pricing expected over the next few weeks.

       Last Week's Shorts:

      • Red Seedless Grapes | 2553 — Supply has returned, but inventories remain limited. Expect elevated pricing and tight availability until California production comes online in July.
      • Chestnut Mushrooms | 10273 — High demand coupled with slow growth led to some shorts.
      • Black Kale | 2590 — Strong demand and recent border delays tightened supply, but product is now back in stock.
      • Enoki Mushrooms | 2765 — Slow growing conditions tightened supply, but product is now back in stock.
      • Valencia Oranges | 2919 — Supply has returned and inventories are secured for the week.
      • Bartlett Pears | 3138 — Container delays created a temporary size gap, but supply has now stabilized.
      • Strawberry Field Ontario | 3339 — Brief first week supply gap. Harvest yield is consistent now to support demand.
      • Yuzu Juice | 8635 — A vendor shipment delay has impacted availability, with replenishment expected later this week.
