Weekly Market Report

Welcome to the Weekly Market Report, your go-to rundown for all the highs and lows of the week.

Lots of exciting new arrivals this week including green strawberries, English peas, female zucchini flowers, local edible flowers, gorgeous chanterelles from a new supplier, and exotic Colombian fruits.

With FIFA kicking off Friday, the city is about to get a lot busier. Increased traffic and road closures may cause some delivery delays, but rest assured we're doing everything we can to keep things moving and get you what you need as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience!

Let's get into this week's highlights...

THE TL;DR VERSION

Market At A Glance:

  • 🔺Tight & elevated: Romaine, romaine hearts, iceberg, leaf lettuces, artichokes, fennel, celery, carrots, napa cabbage, and avocados remain under significant pressure with limited supplies, prorates, and elevated markets expected to continue. Pineapple remains tight, while smaller lemon, orange, and lime sizes continue to be challenging.
  • 🔻Easing: Asparagus supply continues to improve from multiple growing regions, while cauliflower availability has strengthened. Watermelon remains plentiful with softer pricing, and tomato supply and quality continue improving as production ramps up across Mexico, the Southeast, and California.
  • ➡️ Transitioning: Offshore grape season is winding down as Mexican and California production ramps up. Tomato production continues shifting north into Georgia, South Carolina, and California.

📈 What’s Up?: Price increases this week on romaine, leaf lettuces, iceberg, green beans, bok choy, fennel, pineapple, cantaloupe, and gala apples as ongoing lettuce shortages, limited yields, seasonal transitions, and tightening inventories continue to pressure markets.

📉 What's Down?: Price decreases this week on eggplant, green peppers, tomatoes, and strawberries as growing conditions improve, seasonal production ramps up across multiple regions, and overall supply continues to strengthen.

🚨 Escalated Romaine Market: Supply remains extremely tight due to ongoing growing challenges in Salinas, with elevated market pricing and limited availability expected through the remainder of June.

🍓 New Arrivals: Green strawberries, female zucchini flowers (with a tiny zucch!), English peas, local edible flowers, gorgeous chanterelles from a new supplier, and some Colombian exotic fruits (lulo, granadilla & maracuja) are new this week!

Tight conditions and elevated pricing are still expected through at least the remainder of June. We continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as conditions evolve.
