Weekly Market Report

Welcome to the Bondi Weekly Market Report, your go-to for all the highs & lows of the week.

We’ve got some fun new arrivals this week to keep on your radar! Satsuma mandarins are in, along with a gorgeous butter lettuce blend, and Hiiro™ tomatoes from Nature Fresh. Radicchio rosa (aka that pretty pink radicchio), Italian Puntarelle and chanterelles are all arriving tomorrow.

And, if you haven’t already, be sure to check out our 2025 Holiday Planner — it’s packed with Bondi’s best-of-the-season picks to help shape your holiday menus.

Here’s what’s worth keeping an eye on this week.

THE TL;DR VERSION

Market At A Glance:

    • 🔺Tight & elevated: Lettuces, green beans, cauliflower, broccolini, celery, snow/snap peas, and Romas remain escalated due to weather and seasonal transitions.
    • 🔻Easing: Lettuces remain escalated with Yuma off to a slow start, but supply is beginning to improve. Cantaloupe and blueberries are also easing as volume increases.
    • ➡️ Transitioning: Yuma season is underway with low early yields due to weather. Florida is ramping up tomatoes and peppers, California grapes are winding down and shifting to Peru supply, and melons are transitioning to Guatemala/Mexico.
    • ✅ Peaking: Winter citrus (satsumas, clementines, blood oranges, Cara Caras), pomegranates, pears, potatoes, and avocados.

📈 What’s Up?: Prices are up on green beans, grapes, bell peppers, select tomatoes, little gem and heritage blend lettuces, and key imports due to tight supply, weather, and seasonal transitions. Details below.

📉 What's Down?: Prices are easing on blood oranges, mini sweet peppers, cantaloupe, and romaine/red leaf as new regions come online and imports increase. Details below.

🍊 New Arrivals: Satsuma mandarins, butter lettuce blend, and Nature Fresh’s Hiiro™ tomatoes are in this week.

☀️ On The Horizon: Radicchio rosa! Italian Puntarelle! Chanterelles! All arriving tomorrow.

🟥 Red Flags: A few supply watches and shorts from last week of note. Full details below.

    Market Recap

    What's Up, What's Down

    📈Price Increases📈

These items have surged in price this week:

    • GREEN BEANS (2153) - Market remains tight due to high demand + weather-reduced yields + slow seasonal transitions. Conditions are expected to ease in the coming weeks.
    • GREEN & RED SEEDLESS GRAPES (2548 & 2553) - Prices are adjusting as we transition into new growing region with the end of California season.
    • PEA LEAF (3627) - Local pea leaf season has wrapped; transitioning to Mexican product.
    • RED & YELLOW PEPPERS (3010 & 3029) - Ontario greenhouses are winding down, and supply’s tight until the Mexico season ramps up. Expect higher pricing in the meantime.
    • BABY EGGPLANT (2477) - Transitioning to Spanish product as local supply has begun to show quality issues as we near the end of the season.
    • OKRA (2844) - Tight okra supply is pushing prices up.
    • DAIKON (2410) - Local season is winding down, and limited availability until U.S. production ramps up is pushing prices higher.
    • GRAPEFRUIT (6450) - Price increase driven by weather conditions impacting imported South African product.
    • ROMA TOMATOES (3431) - Florida and Mexico supplies are light and will remain tight until mid-January as production increases in both regions.
    • LITTLE GEM LETTUCE & HERITAGE BLEND (4001 & 4617) - Increase driven by strong market demand and lower field yields at the start of the Yuma season.
    • CAMPARI & KUMATO TOMATOES (4738 & 3424) - Ontario greenhouse season is ending, and we’re waiting on stronger Mexican production to bring supply back in line with demand.

    📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

    • BLOOD ORANGES (2881) -More product is entering the market as specialty citrus comes into season, and new arrivals are being offered at lower costs.
    • MINI SWEET PEPPERS (4615) - Mexican greenhouses are just starting up, but meeting demand enough to ease pricing.
    • CANTALOUPE (2250) - Guatemalan imports have started, helping to ease the supply constraints from the U.S.
    • ROMAINE LETTUCE & RED LEAF LETTUCE (9072, 2687, 2689, 2696 & 2683) - Decrease driven by the Yuma growing region coming online, providing relief on tight market due to poor weather in California.

    🧀Gunn's Hill Cheeses🧀

Gunn’s Hill is a small, family-run creamery in Woodstock, where cheesemaker Shep Ysselstein is turning out some of Ontario's best small-batch cheeses. We carry a handful of their standouts, and they fit perfectly into holiday menus:

    • Handeck 1/2 Wheel & 170g Wedge | Code 10742 & 6172 — Nutty, savoury, Alpine-style cheese that just makes winter food taste better. Shave it over roasted veg, finish pastas with it, stir it into risotto...it plays well with pretty much everything.

    • 5 Brothers 1/2 Wheel & 170g Wedge | Code 8062 & 6327 — Buttery, semi-firm, melts beautifully. Great for warm sandwiches, gratins, baked dishes, or on a cheese board.

    • Garlic & Chive 170g Wedge | Code 6171 — Savoury and aromatic. Great on its own, but even better melted onto warm dishes, sandwiches, or crostini.

    • Brigid’s Brie 200g | Code 6170 — Soft, rich, and clean with a subtle mushroom aroma — the perfect size for baked Brie features or holiday canapés.
