Welcome to the Weekly Market Report, your go-to rundown for all the highs and lows of the week.
It’s Valentine’s Week and the vibes are chaotic... in a cute way. Dining rooms are booked, pastry teams haven’t sat down since last Tuesday, and the reservations keep rolling in faster than you can refresh OpenTable. While you’re juggling the Vday rush, here’s the supply update you actually need and what ingredients deserve a little extra love on your prep list...
Here’s what’s stealing hearts in the market this week.
THE TL;DR VERSION
Market At A Glance:
🔺Tight & elevated: Weather continues to pressure a wide range of veg in the market. Lettuce, tender leaf, celery, carrots, green onions, brassicas, herbs, fennel, leeks, Napa, hot peppers, and tomatillos all remain limited with ongoing quality and supply challenges.
🔻Easing: Asparagus is still elevated but trending in the right direction. Grapes remain steady with excellent quality, and both cantaloupe and honeydew are improving with stronger offshore arrivals.
➡️ Transitioning: Melons are shifting as Guatemala moves between growing regions. Strawberries remain tight due to Valentine’s demand and Florida frost, but Mexico and Baja production is starting to help balance supply.
🚨 Upcoming Holiday Closure: Please note that Bondi will be closed on Monday, February 16th for Family Day. There will be no Monday deliveries. Regular service will resume on Tuesday, February 17th.
📈 What’s Up?: Weather and growing-region challenges continue to push prices up across key veg, including tomatillos, shishitos, green beans, Napa cabbage, grape medley & tomatoes, runner beans, and greenhouse peppers. Dairy is also seeing increases.
📉 What's Down?: Pricing is easing on hothouse and cluster tomatoes as Mexican yields improve, and strong supply on sugar snap peas and snow peas is helping bring prices down.
🧈 New Arrivals: Your favourite single-herd, grass-fed A2 Jersey butter from St. Brigid’s Creamery is now listed in retail format!
🌸 Fresh Origins: Edible flowers from Fresh Origins are back—47 varieties are now available for lead time order for Toronto AND Ottawa. Details below!
🟥 Red Flags: Full details and a few shorts from last week of note below.
🫒 New Partanna Chef Select EVOO: We are discontinuing our Partanna Everyday EVOO and switching to Partanna's Chef Select EVOO (2/5L - 12109). Flavour is very similar and price is friendly!
📆 RC Show: March 8th-10th at the International Centre. Booth 1406! See you there!
❤️Valentine's Day Picks: Our favourite picks to help you make every dish look good, taste good, and feel a little extra this weekend.
Market Recap
What's Up, What's Down
📈Price Increases📈
These items have surged in price this week:
TOMATILLOS (6835) - Cold temps in Puebla, MX are hitting the fields hard. Yields are down, and only limited volume is making it across the border right now.
SHISHITO PEPPERS (3019), GREEN BEANS (2153), NAPA CABBAGE (2234), GRAPE MEDLEY TOMATOES (4254) & TOMATOES (4674 & 4675) - Florida’s freezing temps are still causing crop damage and keeping yields low. Both U.S. and Mexican supply are feeling it, so prices will stay elevated for the next few weeks.
FLAT RUNNER BEANS (7513) - Spanish runner beans are struggling on quality right now. Good stuff is hard to come by, and the shortage is driving prices up.
GREENHOUSE BELL PEPPERS (3000, 3007, 3010, 3028 & 3029) -Snowstorms are putting pressure on greenhouses and slowing production on crops that would normally be running at full speed this time of year.
BUTTERMILK & UNSALTED BUTTER (6829 & 6119) - Pricing has increased on dairy.
LIMES (2718 & 2720) - Lime trees are yielding less than expected due to heavy rainfall in the Mexican Gulf region. Supply remains tight, and prices are expected to stay high in the coming weeks.
📉Price Drops📉
These items have dropped in price this week:
HOTHOUSE TOMAOTES & CLUSTER TOMATOES (7381& 7382) - Mexico’s yields are finally picking up, and with more volume coming through, pricing should continue its gradual decline.
SUGAR SNAP PEAS & SNOW PEAS (2973 & 7382) - Good supply from China and Guatemala product
This Just In!
🧈New Arrivals🧈
St. Brigid's Creamery Butter in Retail Format | 12092 & 12097
St. Brigid’s Creamery fans, this one’s for you! We’re now carrying St. Brigid's unsalted and salted retail packaged butters.
Crafted by Bill van Nes, this butter starts with cream from his single herd of grass-fed A2 Jersey cows. Pasture grazing boosts beta-carotene levels in the cream, which is why the butter has that unreal, naturally golden colour.
The cream is barrel-churned to 84% European-style butterfat, so you get that silky texture, clean dairy sweetness, and depth chefs crave in a quality butter.
Edible flowers from Fresh Origins are back on the menu!
Our full Fresh Origins lineup has been rebooted and is now live on the ordering site, with 47 options ready to pre-order and a few more sprout, leaf, and tiny-veg varieties being added in the coming weeks.
How ordering works:
Pre-order by Sunday at 11pm for Thursday delivery — same as before.
Bondi Ottawa: Pre-order by Sunday at 11pm for Friday delivery.
If you’ve been waiting to bring back colour, lift, and that finishing pop to plates, the Fresh Origins program is officially open.
