Weekly Market Report

Welcome to the Weekly Market Report, your go-to rundown for all the highs and lows of the week.

We’ve got some exciting new arrivals landing this week, including green almonds, moscato grapes, abate pears, and a new vendor launch from Zamalek! Plenty of fresh inspiration for menus as we move deeper into spring.

Let's get into it!

  THE TL;DR VERSION

Market At A Glance:

  • 🔺Tight & elevated: Tomatoes remain extremely short across all varieties with quality pressure expected for the next few weeks. Limes, green beans, corn, peppers, cucumbers, and eggplant continue to be impacted by the Florida freeze and Mexico gaps. Carrots, napa, bok choy, artichokes, raspberries, and blueberries also remain limited in the market.
  • 🔻Easing: Avocados are strong with good supply. Blackberries are building toward peak. Cauliflower, celery, mushrooms, and green onions remain steady.
  • ➡️ Transitioning: Lettuce shifting from Yuma to Salinas may bring variability in quality and shelf life. Grapes are tightening ahead of Mexico crop start. Watermelon is between seasons, Valencia oranges start later April, and onions are moving from storage to new crop.

📈 What’s Up?: Price increases this week on peppers, bok choy, tomatoes, green grapes, broccoli, strawberries, and corn, driven by weather impacts in Mexico, Florida season wind-down, strong demand, and quality challenges tightening overall supply.

📉 What's Down?: Price decreases this week on green beans, green onions, and yellow zucchini as improved yields out of Florida and Mexico increase availability and ease market pressure.

🍅 Tomato Market Update: Round tomatoes are extremely short this week due to Florida freeze, expect substitutions and elevated pricing for the next few weeks as supply remains extremely limited.

🫒 Casa Calypso EVOO Shipment Arriving Tomorrow: Our Casa Calypso shipment is en route from Montreal and scheduled to unload mid-day tomorrow, with inventory available for Thursday fulfillment. Thank you for your patience with the delay!

🌟 New Arrivals: Green almonds, Moscato grapes, Abate pears, and a new vendor launch from Zamalek.

🚫 Leaving Soon: Mexican Delicata squash, Radicchio tardivo & rosa, and apple cider are all coming to the end of their season. Last chance to grab some while we have supply.

Market Recap

What's Up, What's Down

📈Price Increases📈

These items have surged in price this week:

  • PEPPERS (JALAPENO, YELLOW & RED BELL, POBLANOS, SERRANOS, RED SHEPPARD) (2994, 3029, 3010, 4008, 3699, 3696, 3015) - Mexico crop strain has peaked, driving pricing higher and tightening availability to the lowest levels of the season. Markets are expected to remain elevated for the next 2–3 weeks until new Florida crop begins.
  • RED LONG CHILI (4008) -  Limited supply from Spain is keeping the market tight; Holland production begins in ~2 weeks, with pricing expected to remain elevated for the next 2–3 weeks.
  • GAILAN, SHANGHAI BOK CHOY & BABY BOK CHOY (2515, 2210 & 2206) - Quality issues and pest pressure from warm weather in Mexico are causing elevated rejects and tightening supply.
  • TOMATOES (ROUNDS, GRAPE, CLUSTER) (4674, 4675, 4676, 3410, 7382) - Mexico crop strain has peaked, driving tomato prices to seasonal highs and availability to its lowest point; markets expected to remain elevated for ~2 weeks until new Florida crop begins.
  • GREEN SEEDLESS GRAPES (2548) - Strong demand is pushing green grape pricing higher, with limited availability expected in the short term.
  • BROCCOLI CROWNS (2206) - Heavy rain in Mexico has reduced yields of high-quality product, tightening availability and pushing prices higher on larger size #1 grades.
  • STRAWBERRIES (3346) - Prices are increasing as Florida winds down and demand shifts to California, with fewer fields currently in production tightening supply.
  • CORN (2374) - Corn market remains elevated, with strong demand and field rejects tightening supply and pushing pricing higher.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • GREEN BEANS (2153) - Florida new crop has started, improving supply and putting gradual downward pressure on pricing.
  • GREEN ONION & YELLOW ZUCCHINI (2860 & 3024) - Stronger yields out of Mexico are improving supply and helping bring pricing down through the month.

Latest Update

🍅Tomato Market🍅

Round tomatoes are in extremely limited supply this week due to the Florida freeze impacting plant bloom and reducing yields.

  • No 5x6 are available (4674)

  • 6x6 are very limited (4675)

  • Most availability is in smaller 6x7 sizes, with pricing remaining elevated (4676)

Roma, grape, tomatoes on the vine, and limited beefsteak tomatoes are available to help fill the gap, so substitutions should be expected while supply gradually recovers.

Pantry Pick of the Week

Suiji Mirin | 8666 & 8667

A quiet workhorse in the Japanese pantry. Tsuki Mirin brings balance, depth, and that proper lacquered finish chefs want on the plate. It softens the salt in soy, lifts umami, and helps sauces reduce cleanly without tasting sugary.

Use it to dial in teriyaki and yakitori, round out ramen finishes, refine marinades for fish or proteins, and bring cohesion to dressings and vegetable glazes. It’s less about sweetness, more about control.

Available by the each or 6ct case!
