Weekly Market Report

Welcome to the Weekly Market Report, your go-to rundown for all the highs and lows of the week.

Happy St. Paddy’s Day y'all! Between the pints, the features, and full dining rooms, hopefully you catch a breather to read this week's highlights.

We're talking forced rhubarb, Barhi dates, new La Rocca cakes...here's what you need to know about this week from Bondi.

 THE TL;DR VERSION

Market At A Glance :

  • 🔺Tight & elevated: Ongoing pressure across lettuce, tender leaf, celery, carrots, green onions, herbs, and warm veg (corn, beans, peppers, tomatoes) due to Yuma weather, Florida freeze impacts, and tight Mexican supply. Limes remain especially tight, with prorates and volatility expected.
  • 🔻Easing: Some relief showing on cucumbers, squash, pineapple, strawberries, avocados, and brussels sprouts as Mexican production improves and spring crops ramp up.
  • ➡️ Transitioning:  Markets are shifting out of Yuma earlier than normal, with Salinas transition approaching. Tomatoes, peppers, and berries are in mixed supply cycles, while citrus remains strong but skewing to larger sizes.
  • 🚨Supply Gaps & Risk Areas: Florida freeze fallout continues to heavily impact corn, beans, tomatoes, and peppers. Guatemala frost and port delays are tightening peas and specialty veg. Mexican unrest, weather, and labor disruptions are expected to reduce volumes over the next 3–5 weeks, with continued risk of gaps and volatility across key categories.

🚨Upcoming Holiday Closure: We will be closed on Friday, April 3rd for Good Friday. Business will resume as usual on Saturday, April 4th. All routes will be open on Thursday, April 2nd. Please plan your orders accordingly.

📈 What’s Up?: We’re seeing price increases this week on poblano, green, and jalapeño peppers, limes, watermelon radish, and napa cabbage due to tight Mexican supply, Florida freeze impacts, and slow crop development.

📉 What's Down?: We’re seeing price decreases this week on Brussels sprouts, green onions, Roma tomatoes, celery, Thai green chilis, raspberries, asparagus, blueberries, and ginger due to improved Mexican yields, increased market availability, supply transitions, and overall market stabilization.

🌟New Arrivals: Local forced rhubarb from Lennox Farms has officially landed. Plus, we've got Barhi fresh yellow dates and new cakes from La Rocca!

☀️On the Horizon: White and purple asparagus should be arriving in the next few weeks.

Market Recap

What's Up, What's Down

📈Price Increases📈

These items have surged in price this week:

  • POBLANO PEPPERS  (3699) - Tight supply out of Mexico paired with rising demand is driving upward pressure on pepper markets.
  • LIMES  (2718 & 2720) - Limited production volumes currently — with improved availability expected late March into early April as field flowering cycles advance.
  • GREEN PEPPERS & JALAPENO PEPPERS (2988 & 2944) - Prices remain elevated as strong East Coast demand continues to strain Mexican supply. Markets are expected to stay firm for the next 3–4 weeks.
  • VALENTINE RADISH (3218) - Light supply on valentine radish in the market as crops are slow to size up to spec. Availability is expected to improve over the next 7–14 days.
  • NAPA CABBAGE (2234)  - The February freeze in Florida continues to impact Napa cabbage pricing, with very limited availability out of Florida. Mexican supply is filling the gap at elevated pricing.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • BRUSSELS SPROUTS (2225) -

Market correction due to plentiful yields currently coming out of Mexico.

  • GREEN ONIONS (2860) - Mexican supply is ramping up, with improved yields driving the market down as pricing realigns with true demand.

  • ROMA TOMATOES (3431) - Prices peaked last week, with supply in both Florida and Mexico beginning to stabilize. Expect a pricing plateau into next week.
  • CELERY STALKS (2317) - U.S. celery supply is beginning to normalize, though markets remain slightly elevated. Expect gradual price declines over the next 2–3 weeks.
  • THAI GREEN CHILIS (3024) - Dominican Republic growers have stopped holding product ahead of the upcoming holiday, increasing supply in the market and driving prices down over the next couple of weeks.
  • RASPBERRIES & ASPARAGUS (3227 & 2093) - Market availability has increased following a flush out of Mexico, with pricing adjusting downward to match.
  • BLUEBERRIES (2193) - Adjustment made this week as we transition supply between Mexico and Morocco.
  • GINGER ROOT (2538) - Supply on Chinese ginger is gradually returning to normal, with the market stabilizing.

Just In!

Barhi Yellow Dates (Fresh) | 12231

These beauties are fresh, bright yellow, and crisp. Kind of like biting into a super sweet apple. Light, clean, and easy to eat. Perfect addition to cheese boards, especially with soft cheeses or something aged. Also great sliced into salads, paired with cured meats, or used as a fresh, slightly unexpected garnish on dessert plates.

Supply Watch!

🚩Last Week's Shortages🚩

Supply Gaps:

  • Corn — Bi-colour corn is back in stock, though FOB inventory remains tight and concentrated among a few suppliers, keeping pricing elevated. Expect these conditions to persist over the next 3–4 weeks until additional regions come online.

Last Week's Shorts:

  • Shishito Peppers | 2515 — Very tight market on Mexico and USA shishito peppers, with low supply and strong demand. We’ll begin bringing in air freight from Spain to support supply.
  • Red Watercress | 4479 — Ongoing vendor shorts are keeping fill rates below 90%, with supply still inconsistent.
  • Topo Chico | 7394 —Border delays continue with confirmation still pending across multiple vendors.
  • Taleggio Locale | 8697 — Production delays out of St. Albert have now cleared, with product readily back in stock.
